As a result of the legal consequences stemming from her involvement in the brutal murder of Reena Virk in 1997, Nicole Cook’s life became more private.
In 1997, Nicole Cook, one of the perpetrators, played a part in the tragic murder of Reena Virk under the Craigflower Bridge in Saanich, Canada.
The television series Under the Bridge is adapted from Rebecca Godfrey’s book. It is based on a real incident that examines the events related to Reena Virk’s tragic demise.
In the series adaptation, Josephine Bell represents the character Nicole Cook due to some legal reasons.
Nicole Cook’s Involvement In Fatal Incident Related To Reena Virk
A 14-year-old Canadian girl, Reena Virk, faced bullying and banishment from her so-called friends while seeking acceptance. Nicole Cook was part of this gang, known as the “Shoreline Six.”
In an effort to fit in, Reena started smoking marijuana and cigarettes while also involving herself in East-Coast hip-hop music, painting her nails, and changing her clothing style.
Additionally, she made a false carnal molestation report against her father to gain more independence.
On the evening of November 14, 1997, Reena attended a party near the Craigflower Bridge, where a group of teens brutally attacked her
Nicole Cook, part of the attacking group, initiated the attack by stubbing out a cigarette on Reena’s forehead.
Also, she claimed that Reena had harassed her friends and spread rumors about her personal life.
After the cigarette incident, the other five teens repeatedly hit, punched, and kicked Reena.
The initial beating ended when one of the teens told the others to halt. Then after, Reena managed to walk away from there.
However, two members, Kelly Marie Ellard and Warren Glowatski, tracked her down and dragged her to the other side of the bridge.
Additionally, they compelled her to remove her shoes and jacket and beat her a second time.
As per Glowatski’s later testimony, Kelly forced Reena to undress partially and attacked her.
Then, they pulled her toward the water’s edge, where Kelly submerged her head until she lost consciousness.
Following the night incident, Nicole returned to the crime scene the next day and took Reena’s sweater and shoes.
During the investigation, Nicole made the younger resident contact Reena’s mother.
After the investigation of this case, authorities found Warren Glowatski and Kelly Marie Ellard guilty of Reena’s murder, with Ellard undergoing multiple trials.
Moreover, Nicole Cook, who lived in a group home at that time, also faced charges and underwent prosecution for her involvement in the attack.
