Born on May 14, 1925, she gained prominence as Grace Archer in the long-running BBC radio drama series The Archers.
Moreover, Ysanne also voiced other characters in this drama series and had roles in shows like Doctor Who.
She retired in 1993 but continued occasional voice-over work, reprising her role as Delegate Alpha Centauri in a 2017 Doctor Who episode 12.
Tragically, the Archer’s star passed away at the age of 99 on July 4, 2024.

As per the BBC, Ysanne, who played Grace Archer, passed away peacefully in her home. Yet, there is no information revealed regarding her illness or any disease before her passing.
Regarding her on-screen character, she joined the cast as Grace at age 26 in 1951. However, her character, Grace, passed away after a fire on the night that ITV launched on September 22, 1955.
Grace’s character left a dinner party to retrieve an earring she thought she’d left in the car. Upon noticing a stable fire, she rushed in to rescue the horses, but the building collapsed on her.
She passed away on the way to the hospital in Phil’s arms after telling him she loved him.
This event was a strategic move by the producers to draw attention and compete with the new television channel.
Ysanne Churchman, the talented actress behind Grace, suspected that her advocacy for fair pay rates for fellow cast members led to her character’s untimely end.
Interestingly, Ysanne Churchman strongly suspected that the producer was glad to be rid of her at the time.
This was because she had discovered that some of her cast members were not being paid Equity minimum rates, which raised the matter.
The mystery behind her on-screen sealed fate was resolved in 2015. Ysanne Churchman revealed that her character’s demise was due to “victimization” after she advocated for equal pay for women in the industry.
She wanted fair compensation, just like her male co-stars, and her efforts led to her character’s untimely exit.
Despite this setback, Churchman continued her successful career, even voicing characters in Doctor Who.
